[xj] '86 VDP questions

Greetings all,

A few issues have cropped up recently and I hope someone can shed
some light on my problems…

  1. My tach recently went dead. Worked fine up until a couple of
weeks ago, now nothing. Any ideas?

  2. Where is my climate control amplifier located? Mine went bad and
I have a new one waiting for installation (cylindrical type).

Thanks all!

Cheers,
Aaron

Aaron: we need you to identify your car fully. An “86 VDP” depending
upon where you are, is either a V12 car (Canada) or an xj6 (Australia,
US…). Which is it? The answers you get will depend on the information
you give.

The tachometer: check the connections at the coil and the ignition
amplifier. If yours is a V12 car, the amplifier is located atop the left
hand manifold; if an xj6, then at the front right corner of the engine
block, near the distributor.

The AC amplifier is located behind the left side console “cheek” panel.
It is affixed to the climate control casing and has many connections to
it. Access is best if you remove the air vent horn (tiny screws!!!)
