[xj] 87 XJ6 III VDP Spark plugs who's the best & readly avail

I want to replace my spark plugs. I want the best performing brand
readily avail. for purchase at a reasonable price. I value the lists
wisdom even though I may invoke some hoon comments for attempting to get
the best product for my Cat at a good price from local auto parts store.
I don’t know if the dealerships want to sell parts at a reasonable
price.===================================================

S.B.G.,
I have an HEI ignition and can gap them at 0.45.
Generally though, they are gapped at 0.35.

The best plug for the 4.2 litre car is the Champion N12Y as specified and
supplied by the factory. Resist the urge to pay three times as much for
platinum plugs. They do NOT work as well. The Champions have a new number
which I always forget to copy down.

I think most of us agree that Champions, somehow, always seem to work the
best. There’s a certain well known Brit car guy in Pennsylvania who favors
various platinum plugs and… well, that’s another story !

I have no worries with the NGK’s which currently reside in my motor, FWIW.
They were on sale that day.

The new Champion # is 404. I find it best to use 24 at once (4 in each Honda,
4 in the Sprite, 6 in the Jag and 6 in its boot, just in case

James, maybe I’ll try them when the Champions need replacing (in about 100kmi
:). Actually, the “galling” thing means someone doesn’t understand that all
threaded items need proper lubrication, so I’d ignore that statement. Our
Hondas have had NGKs in them and they’re fine, but I usually have the same
plug in them as in the Jag (RN12YC, now 404). Rather than switching brands,
for a test, I suggest using a plug cleaner, to see what a difference clean
plugs can make.–
