[xj] a/c R12 charging

Decided I would try charging the system myself. I have the shop
manual and will attempt to perform all the checks and charge my R12
system. Question: the high side port is also a 7/16-20. How and
where do I go about obtainng a pre 1976 adaptor for it. I have no
intention at this time to convert it to a R134 system. I just want
to have the adpater to be able to accomplish the charging. Or can
I just get around it by using a two different hoses with the same
coupler? Also open to warnings like - DON’T DO IT!!! (would only
ask why).

Any help appreciated.–

I have just recharged my 85, and 88 VDP’s with Red-X R12a. They
sell a kit with 2 cans of refrigerant, and 1 can of sealer. The kit
also has a hose to connect the cans to the low side. The kit also
has a few R134a adaptors in it. I don’t know if these adptors fit
pre 76 or not.
NAYYY
PS; so far I’m pleased with the results. I have also done 4 other
cars, and so far so good. A few problems with the hose that Krazy
glue solved.–
