[xj] A Sticky Question

The glass part of my passenger side mirror fell off. Luckily it was
hanging by the heating element. What is the best glue to stick it
back on? Any tips on how to apply it?

Thanks,

Henry–

If the glass has just delaminated from the holder plate, Henry; any glue
will do…

This subject raises a question for me. On my XJC which has
series 111 mirrors the glass on both is in tack but has slid
down appoximately 5mm. They are not in danger of falling off
and work well but look awful. I assume a PO fixed them like
this or another possibility is that with heat the glue has
softened enough to allow them to slip down.

I guess my question is - Is this a common problem with
series 111 mirrors? Can they be moved without breaking them,
perhaps with heat application? Any comment or suggestions.

It’s highly uncommon, Philip - and your guess is as good as mine…

The glass may have been sloppily replaced after breaking - in which case
the glue used is anybody’s guess. Principally; I think the glass and
backing are integral - to be changed as a unit…

But are you sure that the ball connections are correctly connected -
though it usually means that the mirrors are not fully operational.
Funny - on mine there is barely room for a 5 mm sag within the body…?
