What is the possibility of securing the AFM by using a spring system with
dampers. Should that not stop any vibration that you could get from the cars
movment?

I imagine the orientation of the AFM flap’s axis is the most important – 90
degrees to the axis of engine vibration, so there’s minimal vibration
coupling. Since it also has to have the rubber boots to connect to the filter
and throttle neck, these add ways in which vibration can be coupled in, so the
whole assembly requires careful thought, measurements and maybe trial and
error. The rubber connectors on ours are not terribly soft.

By the way, I discovered that a pair of large rubber vacuum caps (from the
Help! brand in PepBoys, Grand Auto, etc.) fit over the thick mounting pins for
the air cleaner and accept the cleaner’s two bracket holes perfectly – no
need to keep replacing those little rubber grommets on the bracket.
