[xj] Aftermarket electric fan on SII

Hello all,

I installed an electric fan on my MGB and I am really
pleased with this. Now thinking of doing this on the XJC.
Any advice on dos and donts, where to get the right equipment?

Also, I acquired a brand new aluminum radiator which I am
thinking of fitting at the same time as the electric fan.
Any thoughts?

Thank you.–

Hi Eric - I prefer a fan which doesn’t fully shroud the radiator so
that ‘‘natural’’ flow at high speed can do it’s thing, allowing the
fan to switch off on the highway. I also favour curved blade
versions for low noise and the associated efficiency for a given
level of flow.

Make sure your temperature switch is for a higher temp than your
thermostat. Some wiring kits are adjustable for temp.

SummitRacing.com have a big selection of fans and wiring kits, and
have info like flow capacities and current draw.–

I fitted twin Kenlowe’s to the front of the rad. Works
perfectly and gives a lot of access to the engine. Biggest
problem was getting the old shroud off - rusted screws. They
are perhaps a bit pricey - got mine at half price since they
had obviously been sitting on my suppliers shelf for a while.
I had ordered ‘‘pullers’’ and initially fitted at the back of
the rad. When they first came on a pedestrian was walking past
and got the full blast - very funny - well it seemed so at the
time.–

Great, thanks. How is yours fitted? Does it use plastic
clips through the radiator? I am concerned about these on an
aluminum radiator: the fins are so fragile.–

Don’t even think about it, Eric - the only legitimate things attached to
any radiator are hoses and sensors…

This is what I thought. It will have be one that can be
fitted without touching the fins.–
