Ted:
The Prestone test strip idea bfings back memories of high school
chemistry and later pool chenmistry, ie litmus strips to measure
alkalinity/acidity. I suspect he Prestone strip was an
interpretation of that technology!
Dare I say that has nothing to do with the political use of the
term!!! - -
As to glycol, memory again refers to the use of it in in inline
liquid cooled air craft engines. I seem to recall mention of pure
glycol.
I have not looked recently, but MACāS used to promote a water pump
lube/inhibitor mix sold in pint cans. Use to boost inhibitors in
aged coolants?
During WWII or about that time, I worked in a service station as a
kid. Glycol was unavailable. Texaco marked alcohol to use as
antifreeze. We did a lot of that installation in the cold. Some
old timers at that time touted the use of kerosene.
As my cars run just fine on 50/50 thatās where they will stay. I do
use the Sierra brand of glycol as it is touted to be less toxic znd
attractive to animals. Most are Ethylene Glycol and the latter is a
different combintion although still glycol based.

In my fading memory, I seem to remember owning some PH strips
(from Prestone?) that would allow me to measure corrosion
protection levels. This was 20 years ago or more.
Advanced Auto had nothing like it when I asked the clerk recently.
But I havenāt looked any further. Guess I could Google itā¦but -
does anyone know what Iām talking about??
