[xj] Bought a 1985 XJ6...Need contacts around Berkeley, CA

Hi. My name’s Brandon and I just got a 1985 xj6 in really nice
condition. I have some problems with the brakes, headlights, and
the sunroof… and possibly new upholstery on the roof. Please
point me to a good mechanic who can do a recomissioning service
around Berkeley, CA (San Francisco area).
Thanks,
Brandon email: @Brando 510-599-9335 cell. I
really want to get to know someone.

Specific recommendations might be a while in coming, as many of the owners
participating on these lists actually service their own cars.

The “upholstery on the roof” is called the headliner. I take it that yours
is drooping? You should search the archives for information on headliner
replacement - many people have done the job. Having a sunroof however
might complicate the project.

You should consider ordering up the appropriate service manuals on
CD-ROM. Information is available at the following link:

JHM-1141 is the appropriate disc for your car, and these discs have a
retail of US$25 apiece (though some dealers might want to charge you
appreciably more). It’s an excellent deal considering what the printed
versions of these manuals cost.

Brandon: welcome to the list. You do need a good Jaguar mechanic, but do you
realise that you can do much of the work needed yourself, including redyeing
the leather, repairing the sunroof, fixing any electrial problem? For
example, the headlamp problems are almost always a matter of poor fuse
contacts in the engine compartment fuse box. Clean and tighten the contacts,
and replace the fuses. If you let us know in detail what the problems are,
we can give you the solutions. That is what we are here for.
