[xj] Correct decals for a 1984 Series III XJ6 Vanden Plas

Where can I find information on the “correct” paper/plastic decals that
should be on my 1984 Series III XJ6 Vanden Plas.

I just looked at my car and I have the following decals:

-"Do Not Slam.." decal in the boot (trunk)
-"Warning..." decal in front of the battery
-"JAGUAR" decal on the intake cam cover
-"For Lubrication Information.." decal on the air cleaner

A quick look through the trim sections in my catalog collection from the
usual sources shows that they have decal sets for the E-Types but not for an
XJ6. The decals that I have are in great condition, but I think I am
missing a few.

I’ve seen some cars with what look like “Tappet Clearance” decals on the cam
covers and I also think one on top of the radiator fan shroud.

Does anyone have a list of the correct decals to have for this car.
(Hmmmmmmmm, is Paul seriously thinking of going the Concours route???)

Yes. Unfortunately the demand isn’t there yet for the vendors to assemble
full kits.

Yes, there should be the tapped clearance sticker on the cam cover. There
was a warning sticker on the top of the fan shroud, but I’m not certain if
that was there on all SIIIs or added late in the run.

There should be a decal regarding brake fluid.

There are also several decals on the underside of the bonnet regarding
emissions, vacuum hoses, etc.===================================================

“Tappet Clearance”…I got mine, the correct silver one, off Ebay. Have
not seen 'em listed in ages, though. An E-type decal will do…not 100%
correct, but a nice touch.

Paul’s Jaguar has been selling some decals lately.

The fan shroud decal is a real challenge though…

Paul: there is a yellow “Rotating components !” decal on the fan shroud, the
battery connection sticker, the boot decal, the cam cover decal, the air
cleaner decal, the brake fluid decal…
I have a few of the battery and boot decals available. There is no package
of decals for the Series III cars, and most are not available any more, the
tappet clearance decal is the same one as on previous cars, so that is
available from the usual suppliers.

In reply to a message from Dr Gregory Andrachuk sent Thu 8 Jan 2004:

Paul,
I started to try to reproduce the fan shroud decal when my plastic
fan exploded and took out part of the shroud. Maybe now would be a
good time to get busy again…lol Problem is getting it to
appear exactly as it did when new (which I think I have figured
out) now just doing it.

Dear Doug and Jag Lovers:
I’d also like to know if anyone out there has good fan warning
decals. I replicated mine using Photoshop, and it looks fine. The
problem, though, is getting it printed out on material that holds up.
I’ve tried good-quality photo paper, but the lettering got fuzzy from
the underhood heat. Are there special decal-type or sticker materials
out there that can be printed on and that will withstand the heat? If
so, then with only minor Photoshop expertise there probably aren’t any
stickers that can’t be replicated accurately.
Cheers,
Bill Trimble
