My original post " The Case of the Missing Fuel Pumps"
Checked the fuel changeover switch as Doug suggested.
I have a parts manual and wiring diagram now which also helps.
You could tell the switch was apart before.
Disassembled and cleaned switch.
After reassembly could not get a continuity reading from
either terminal for the right tank.
Replaced switch with a spare switch with continuity
but pump problem persists.
The car is in the driveway and whenever I have the time
to look at it decides to rain, until today.
Drained both fuel tanks by removing the small bolt (SH606041/J).
I did not remove the plug (C.44665) that the bolt screws into.
If you have done this before, do you suggest removing
the plug also?
One picture in the parts manual shows what looks like a
filter in place above the plug.
The picture next to it on the same page does not show this.
The gasket will probably not be any good if I remove the plug
it is hard and brittle around the edge of the plug.
Has anyone flushed the tank and what did you flush it with?
When I went to pick up the Vega pump the clerk suggested
that a Vega pump designed for a 4 cylinder my not provide
enough fuel pressure. That although the pumps may have the
same outer casing the pumps are rated and the inner components
may be different.

Yes, the filter sits on top of it (at least on SI’s). When I drained
the tanks on the Daimler, the plug came out with the bolt. Only later
did I realize this wasn’t supposed to happen;)–

Just about any carbureted car on the road, Jags and Vegas alike, require
only about 3-5 psi fuel pressure, so the Vega pump should be OK as far as
pressure goes.
The parts clerk perhaps should have more concerned with fuel volume…the
6 cylinder motor theoretically requiring a much greater quantity of fuel
than the 4 cylinder motor.
However, I’m sure I’ve read where others have used the Vega pump with good
results. It’s hard to argue with success !
