[xj] English majors, no Jag content

“DOUGLAS DWYER” <@Doug_Dwyer>

Tom,
Well, the plan had called for me be the ghost writer followed by you simply
editing my work, thus giving you some deniability to protect your stature
and ethics ! Actually, it’s too late—he turned in the assignment some time
ago.

Ok. how’s this…? I was an English major in college. Send me your
report
and I’ll bang it out. Meanwhile you can do the help list thing. There’s
another lister out there who was once an English prof (Tom G.—was
that
you ? I can’t remember) and he can edit my work before I send it back to
you. Now, how’s THAT for a “help list” ??

Doug: Yeah! That wuz me. But long ago and far away. And I was a
newspaper
reporter, public info officer for a city, edited a Jag newsletter for the
New York area club and now write the text for my company’s proposals which
means I at least know which end of the pencil is sharp. But as a former
English teach, wouldn’t I be faced with a moral dilemma doing somebody
else’s paper? Isn’t this against everything I’ve preached? Or am I
wrong?
As I said, it was a long time ago and my memory has failed a few tests of
its own recently.
Regards,
Tom Golodik

I just got the paper back today.
200 points out of a possible 200 points! WOO HOO! My teacher wrote “It was a
joy to read.”
FYI, the paper was on “Electrical System Reliability in the United States.”
Basically, I covered how the US electric utilites need to build new power
plants to not only satisfy demand, but to replace the many aging plants that
are due for retirement.

Paul,
Well done ! I can’t speak for Tom G., but I probably would have botched
that one all to hell.

Ummm…Actually, my master’s thesis was a examination of public-private
partnerships in the water utility business. Very un-English majorish, but
life transforming indeed, and too long a story to tell as to how I arrived
at that point.
