[xj] exhaust manifold P437048 xj6 4.2 S3 please?!

Hi everyone,

think I have been driving a bit too enthusiastically following my
MOT pass last week as have managed to break the exhaust manifold
nearest the firewall right on the moulding which holds the spring &
7/8’’ screw that holds the heat shield in place. Realised it was
cracked from the sound driving along last night, then a big chunk
of manifold fell out when I unbolted the shield to have a look, so
I now need a new or second hand rear manifold! part stamp reads
P437048 but not having much luck locating one through
classifieds/club/ebay or my local scrappies and wondered if anyone
can help me with a replacement or know of a UK source that might be
able to help me ?
Thanks for reading & all the best,

I may have a spare, from an SII, which will fit fine.–

With all the otherwiae healthy cars that go to the breaker
in UK, there must be one somewhere. In USA, the wreckers have a net
work to locate parts. Is there such a thing in UK?

If all else fails, cast iron can be welded. it’s not the best
process, however, a skilled welder can do it!

Bolt it to a flat surface to keep warpage to a minimum

In older days, we used to split our 6 cylinder manifolds to get
three on a pipe and a very special and unique sounds. It involved
welding. I’ll not describe the scope as it has little to do with
your issue other than it can be welded.

Too bad, it’s not 4 years ago and you were in the vicinity. I gave
my engine and transmission away. The engine was bad, but the trans
and manifolds were good! No one wanted them except my wife. She
wanted them gone!

There is a way!!

Stu

Where abouts in the UK are you?

I know a couple of sources in the Midlands but postage on such a
heavy item would make it a bit expensive if you can’t collect it
yourself.

This guy has got quite a lot of stuff, if you can get to him (He
sponsors our regional newsletter so I can’t say I’ve no
affiliation) but I do use him…

I’m going to resurrect this thread if that’s ok. I have the exact same problem only the PO has actually welded what looks like a bolt into the place where the old bolt holding the heat shield on the rear of the manifold. I currently don’t have a heat shield and it’s on my “to buy” list. Is there possible to grind the head of this bolt flat, then drill it out and tap it to take a new bolt? or is the welded area likely to be too either hard or crumbly for this to be done? I’m not sure if I will be able to source a replacement manifold over here but I admit I haven’t really tried yet. I don’t think I will be able to run the motor in the summer without over-heating problems. It gets quite hot here in the summer.
Con

Hi Con, it’s worth a shot - given it’s otherwise a throw out - maybe a coarse thread? Would be very surprised if JagDaim in Melbourne or Cathouse and Jagara in would not have one to sell. Paul

Hi Paul, thats what I think, worth a go! I had a friend who was a whiz at all things engineering and this would have been right up his ally, but unfortunately he passed away a couple of years ago, I miss him everytime I get things like this to do. Jagdaim is where I’ll be checking first. Never heard of Cathouse and Jagara is that right?
Con

They’re both in Sydney. Cathouse in Rydalmere (Bob) and Jagara in Caringbah (Geoff). Good guys. Paul
