[xj] Exhaust Modifications?

@JONRHOAD

Listers,

Has anyone removed the front or rear mufflers and replaced with a straight
pipes. I guess that it would be one set or the other, but was wondering if
anyone had tried. I am planning on replacing both front (flat) mufflers, but
was wondering if anyone had tried this?

Jon,

I tried putting straight pipes in place of the rearmost
muffler/silencer/resonator/whatever. I didn’t like the sound…didn’t
have the mellow tone of the true split system on some XKs that I was
hoping for. JW

Both my cars have the front mufflers removed. Hard to say if there
is any increase in performance (+15 bhp is rumoured), but it sounds
a bit more sporting.

The pipes needed to replace the mufflers are less than trivial to make
up though, definitely not a straight line.
