Hello Chaps,
My 2 cents regarding cost for Jag shop doing head. The labor is $1,000, a
rebuilt head is $450, total $1,600 with gaskets and such. I believe it
takes one day to get the head off and one day to put it all back, thus, at
shop rate of $60 an hour this is the $1,000 labor. The shop I’m referring
to is Britalia in north Orange county (Fullerton) CA. I very much recommend
Britalia for all Brit car work. Walter and Haig are “old time” mechanics,
have seen ever problem 100 times, honest, and helpful to a chap like me who
does a lot of work themselves.

The labor charge is about right but sometimes the head does not come off the
first day!

Just to cheer you up in the new year, guys. Jaguar specialists do a
complete engine overhaul. New pistons, rings, bearings and bore. And
head including machining, new valves, seats and spring etc for around
USD 2500…
