Replacing the old fabric and deteriorated foam backing is the only
convincing way to repair it, Ray.
On the ser2, you can remove the front or rear glass (I prefer the
rear), remove the cant rails and interior trim and then get the
panel out of the car. It’s very fragile on the early cars so care
needs to be taken.
Once it’s out of the car, you remove the fabric and carefully brush
all the dusty old foam off. Replacement fabric can be obtained
from Jaguar trim specialists or you might be able to find some
locally.
I usually take the cleaned board to an upholstery shop for the
application of the new fabric then reinstall it myself. Our shops
have better adhesives than the hardware store stuff. Others have
done DIY jobs and had success.–

Thanks John
I suspected the glass might have to come out. Bummer really as
it has not long been put back in.–
