This may not be something you can answer, unless you happen
to have had your ignition switch dangling from its harness,
as I currently do:
Is the main feed wire (the heavy brown one) supposed to get
that hot?
Mine is very hot to the touch. So much so that it has (very
slightly) melted the insulation.
By the way, in case you’re wondering WHY I have the switch
dangling - I had a problem a while back with the ignition
intermittently cutting out, and I’m waiting to find the time
to clean the switch contacts. In the meantime, the problem
has gone - as long as I leave the switch dangling from its
harness!–

No the switch could get warm, but not so hot that it actually melts the
insulation. I would find the time to clean those contacts soon as that is
possibly why the switch is getting hot. The corrosion is causing more
resistance to the flow of electron (current) in the circuit and therefore
heating things up. Another reason why it “works now as it dangles”, is that
you are essentially changing the contact point by moving the wires (hence
connection point) around. The heat of the circuit may have also partially
desoldered the connector internal to the switch.
Clean it! And if that doesn’t fix your problem, replace the electrical
portion of the switch soon before you get stranded somewhere. 8>}

It sounds like it's time to replace the ignition switch.
The part number is LU-35315, all the usual sources have them for
about $50 or less.
My ignition switch decided to fail about a year ago about 100
miles away from home. The tow home cost much more than the part.
