[xj] My HEATER FIXED car turned 100,000 etc.. great mechanic

“JagMan Rani” <@Da_Lebanese_Polack>

Well anyways let’s start from yesterdays events. My car TURNED 100,000km
yesterday at 9:50 in the morning. I got pictures  and anyways i was going
up to my mechanic to fix my heater today.

I arrive there and i tell him could it be the temperature sensor? He said
maybe so he let me go into one of his partscars and take whatever i wanted.
HE TOOK ALL THE goOD STUFF ALLREADY. but oh well, so i remove the dash and
take the temp sensor, when i go to replace mine the tube was off, and not
because i pulled the dash thing off. SO i replaced it. Did it work? NO.
and now it doesn’t fit properly anymore. (CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHAT TO DO TO
MAKE IT FIT FLUSH??) so then i tell him it was a worty attempt but to no
avail.

He previously GAVE me the official repair manual (FOR FREE) that i was going
to buy for 140 dollars (CAN) and then handed me a used WORKING motor servo
unit.

My servo motor works it’s just the microswitches or connections that were
bad so i am going to try to fix that. He just gave it to me. So i went
home took apart the passanger footwell got in there and wrestled that thing
out had to move a lot of cables and stuff and man my old one looks NEW clean
as a wistle except when i opened her up and saw some crud all over the
bottom of the housing and a little on some connector. So i put the used one
that works (which looks like crap and i had to alter the housing to clear
the prongs and to get the thing in there)

And i now have full automatic climate control. I looked up the part at
jagbits and it sells for $450 so i kind of fell obligated to pay my mechanic
a good bit for all the help he has given me and all the free parts and
stuff.

Well that problem is fixed and i think that’s it EVERYTHING IN THE CAR WORKS
and now all i want to do is fix the dash cover to be flush. Can anyone give
me somepointers? Thanks

A rundown, my car turned 100,000km yesterday and i have the best darn jag
mechanic in the world. Since i am kinda young he says he’s here to help me
out. What a guy i gotta get a picture with me and him to put in my jag
photoalbum.Thanks

Rani,
Good job. I think it’s great that you are digging in, learning, and fixing
things. You obviously are learning how much satisfaction can come from
“doing it yourself”. Keep this up and the listers may be asking you for help
soon !

Your mechanic friend sounds like a good guy. Yes, I would definitely offer
him “something” for helping you out–if not monetary payment, something to
show your appreciation. Gratitude never goes out of style and you apparently
are aware of that.

I find that an alcoholic gratuity generally works, Rani…

Craig,
That may not be a PC idea. I don’t think Rani is old enough to buy liquor !

Ah. In the UK, of course driving and alcohol come at the same age - 18.
In the US, you can drive at 16, right?
