[xj] need S3 steering savvy

The steering on my '80 XJ6 has gone “sloppy”.
Predominantly in LEFT turns…have to turn the wheel 90 deg.
before it responds. A bit scary at times.

Don’t know if it’s relevant, but the “rack” is only about a year old.

Any pointers greatly appreciated.

For a start - STOP DRIVING IT!

A rack tooth corresponds to rather less than 90 degrees.
Therefore something is dangerously loose - perhaps the
steering column joints have stripped. I’m not sure how
you can achieve that much play, it’s not going to be
easy! But fix it before you drive any more - you may
otherwise find yourself in an unguided missile.

Take care,
Paul Gover.
