I am with Fazal!

I had a Fiat 1500 roadster in the late 60’s that came to me
with Pirelli tires. There was always something about that
car that never felt right when driving. Keep in mind that I
drove that car hard maybe because of the fake Ferrari horse
in the grille. So one day I bit the bullet and bought a set
of Michelin tires including the spare. What an amazing
difference in the seat of the pants feel when driving. No
more early rear end break away, no more front end wander at
speed! It now just felt right and lesson learned!

Pregnancy caused me to sell that car, a move I regret to
this day!

All of the Jaguars I have owned (5) and even our Chevrolet
Equinox have Michelin tires!–

Gordon:

Humor: Whose pregnancy??? And the
sale or the pregnancy?

Other:

I’ve bought a lot of tires in
my days. A favorite was a set
of Trail Handlers from Sears.
Made by Michelen.

Presently’’

Yokohamas on the Jeep. Touring,
not off road style.

B.F. Goodrich on the Jaguar.
Nothing exotic, ‘‘T’’ rated.

Suit me just fine.

Hi

I agree the Michelin is a great tyre
https://www.borrani.com/tyres/215-70x15/exact-match/215-70wr15-
pirelli-cinturato.html However so is the Cinturato. and it is good
to have a choice.–

And I can add my agreement to Gordon’s. I have solved more supposed
“mechanical” issues on Jaguars than I can remember by simply replacing
Pirelli tires with a different brand (Michelins mostly). Pirellis are great
until half worn, then the trouble starts. They become octagonal, they suffer
from belt shift. the rubber gets very hard…

Precisely. Although I don’t know whether this applies only
to the original P5s (introduced specifically for the
XJ6/12), to Pirellis of the period generally, or indeed to
current Pirellis as well.–

A little clarification, the pregnancy was not mine. The
regrets only applied to the fact the Fiat was only a two
seat car and we could not afford three cars at the time.

The Fiat 1500 Cabriolet was considered to be a Ferrari 250
GT Wanna-Be so I found a chrome rampart horse and replaced
the Fiat emblem in the grille. Didn’t matter that the Fiat
probably could not top 100 mph it looked a lot like the
Ferrari California 250. I did drive that car hard and after
the tires were replaced it drove like I actually had great
driving skills.

Our recent move leaves me with NO more garage room but if a
perfect (red) 1964 Fiat 1500 Cabriolet became locally
available I would be sorely tempted!!! Possibly one of the
more satisfying early rides I ever owned.–

True, Gregory. Of all the problems, hard rubber is the worst.

True, Gregory. Of all the problems, hard rubber is the worst.

…or better for longevity, Fazal…

Tires are a compromise between grip, comfort, including noise, and
longevity - and respective companies’ philosophies tend to remain constant
throughout design changes. There is also the question of speed ratings - and
high speed tyres tend to be harsh riding a low speeds. Certainly; there is
absolutely no doubt about Michelin quality control - it is impeccable, and
individual tyres remain true throughout their lifetimes…

That said, there are plenty of choices out there - it is more a matter of
drivers’ priorities - driving style, if you like. Throughout the years I
have driven on a wide variety in different cars - and I always come back to
Bridgestone. Giving the sort of ride, grip and predictable behaviour I
like…

I won’t mention winter tyres…

Frank:

Well said. I also have had an excellent experience with Bridgestone tires on
my XJ8, and on my XK, the Hankook Evo V12 tires - smooth, quiet, handsome
and with the proper high speed rating that the XK requires.

please don’t mix up the P4000 tyres with the current production of CN12 Cinturato Tyres http://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/page/pirelli-cinturato-cn12

they are a very different thing

And the 215/70R15 CN12 is an absolute bargain
