Now if the Jaguar God’s were gracious, there are no bent valves!!

And, I know think I realize what happened to my engine 6 years ago!

Had I the benefit of the time I have spent learoning things on this
forum, I might have tried to repair it.

PROBLEM LOCATED!!! I must have been so tired yesterday while
looking for the answer that I just could not see it. Turns out it
is a Timming Chain issue. The Exhaust cam is advanced aprox. 19 /20
degrees over the Intake Cam. So guess my next step is to aquire the
famous so called ‘‘BIBLE’’ the all important SHOP MANUAL and get down
and get my hands dirty. But first and foremost, I want to express

Glad to hear that! And, if you want to try a little mod, you can advance both
cams about 4 degrees to improve lower end torque. This was pioneered by DougD
here and some of us have done it, but haven’t any dyno results!

In any case, the steps are easy, given where you are now.–

Indeed it is, mister…bad news, but at least clarified…

This is a typical slipped chain - either due to a faulty tensioner,
guides or incorrect/insufficient tension adjustment. As what damage that
can be done has already been done I suggest; slacken the chain, and
reset the cams correctly - then retension the chain. if this can be
successfully done; rerun the compression test…

If good and pressure in all cylinders - you have escaped a nasty one by
the skin of your teeth. Apart from clarifying the extent of the problem
it’ll give some easy practice for the work ahead…

Most likely one or more valves are bent, which will show up in the
compression test. In which case the head must off for a valve job in any
case. Whether or not the upper cam chain should be changed is a matter
of guesswork - unless there are clear indications during the work either
way…

The prudent thing is of course to at least remove covers and inspect the
upper chain and paraphernalia - and remedy as required…
