Yes, it’s possible, but why would you need to do it ?
If it’s for your XJ40 you may be better off asking on that forum.

to dave c., because it is a replacement engine with a the
pressure sending unit on the back of the head and doesn’t
work. I prefer the electronic unit. you say they are
interchangeable, but will affect the pressyre reading?
thanks for your help. craig r.–

I’ve never seen an oil pressure sender on the cylinder head.
Coolant temperature sender yes, but the oil pressure that needs
monitoring is in the crankshaft… but life’s a learning game.
When we used to fit an oil pressure gauge as an aftermarket
extra on various types of cars we would take the oil pressure
switch out then fit a Tee piece, to which we reconnected the oil
pressure switch and either a transmitter for an electrical gauge or
the piping for a mechanical one. The oil pressure switch sees the
same pressure that you need for a gauge to work.
Obviously if you just replace the switch with a sender you lose
the warning light.

Silly me.
Must have been the ‘‘no orifice on the oil filter housing head’’
statement that threw me. So let’s see if I’ve got this right,
there’s no orifice on the oil filter housing head for an oil
pressure transmitter because there’s an oil pressure tansmitter
screwed into the one that is there…
Duh ?

Oil filter housing ‘head’ Dave, not cylinder head.
That’s how I read it anyhow ((c) Doug Dwyer)

to dave and peter, yes I meant to say housing head not
cylender head. I will use a tee in lieu of removing the
switch. I really appriciate your help. craig r.–

Also first use the ‘T’ to connect an external and verified gauge while
you are there, mister. This will give you a true oil pressure to verify
the match between the transmitter/gauge combination. It’s not given that
the combination will work irrespective of transmitter selection…
