[xj] OK, how does this sound as a restoration plan?

Hello again, long time no see. Alrighty I’m finally getting
finances together to fix up my kitty. My plan is to send off the
head to XK’s unlimited for stage 2 headwork, order some nice
induction and exhaust parts from AJ6 Engineering, then order a
completely new interior from XK’s as well as one exterior body
panel and a new starter. In the end I’ll have a freshly painted
British Racing Green 1986 XJ6 with at least a 110 HP improvement.
So, sound good?

You might consider getting the mechanicals done first…suprises
do have a way of popping up. How many miles are on the
engine/transmission combo? Personally, if I were having all that
head work done, I would have the lower end dis-assembeled, rebuilt
and balanced. All that extra power puts strain on the lower-end
components.
Ask the people that are doing the head work what they think.–

To add to another lister’s comment, it’s essential to have the suspension
perishable and wearing parts replaced - plus brake calipers and flexible
hoses. Extra power driving a jelly does not bring smiles… Then when
one drops the rear subframe you may well find cracks in the steel which
would become even more nasty when being yanked about by a diff fed with
300bhp… Trust me, a tight handling car gives more pleasure than a fast
and loose one. And do you know all your caliper pistons are unseized…?

Well if I could I’d put fourwheel disc Brembos on but thats neigh
impossible for several reasons. I’m hoping to have the machine work
done at the same time that I’m doing the cosmetics.

DH,

I recommend upgrading to the std. Euro-issue 9:1 pistons, since very low
compression with the std. US-issue 7.8:1 pistons is the greatest fault with the
S-III XK engine, causing low economy and loss of torque and power.
