rickTrue,

That would probably depend on what continent in the world you live on.
For all I know you could be located in South Africa, New Zealand, Singapore
or even the Netherlands. You should provide some clue as to your general
location if you want to get some help. This is an international list.

Location via national flag is shown on web based forum - not
on the list option I assume—long time since I used the list
option though - but it is a point worth remembering when
setting up your signature since a lot of posters do seem to
just use the list.–

Carl,

Masthead? What's that?

Is that something in the web interface? I have been getting emails

only for the past 13 years or so of Jag-Lovers membership.

Me too. And when the questioners give us no information (no name, no
location, no car details) it is almost impossible to give proper advice. And
when their grammar is unintelligible and punctuation non-existent (a product
of this Twitter age?), I simply delete. (I am NOT, absolutely NOT referring
to our list members for whom English is not a first language; they are
admirable in making comments and questions in this difficult language).

Wow. What happened to the ‘‘we are a friendly forum’’ bit?
Have we got so many members we can jump down the throat of
any fairly new poster who hasn’t yet got up to speed?
Whereas I am inclined to agree with Gregory’s sentiments
about bad grammar and punctuation I can’t see that it applies
here. rickTrue is probably wondering if he ought to find
another forum.–

My comments did not refer to, and were not meant to refer to a specific
person or a specific inquiry, Dave. Perhaps I wrote that before my second
cup of coffee - I might have been more diplomatic an hour later, but the
comments stand as a general observation.

That is fair enough, Gregory - not responding for lack of clarity can in no
way be considered ‘unfriendly’…

…nor is reminding the list of the fact…

Where do you live? If you’re near the Washington DC area, I
can recommend someone to refinish the wheels with powder
coat. He did a great job on mine. Mine were all one color,
but he can mask and do multiple colors. He’s also very
competitively priced.

Hi Rick,
The 75-76 cars had chrome plated ‘‘Turbo’’ wheels. I’ve
searched and come to the conclusion that they can’t be re-
chromed. The wheel rim has to be cut from the hub so the
wheel can be prepped. Then it is welded back together and
chrome plated. I haven’t found anyone who will do it.
I’ve been on a several yea quest to find good originals.
They’re out there but getting scarce.–

WOW. I’m humbled that my tiny post could generate such
response. I accept that identifying my location would be
helpful, however it just never entered my mind.
I’m in Connecticut, USA.
Kindly, very kindly, Dr. Andrachuck answered a question for
me several months ago so I guess I simply presumed my local
was not an issue.
Paul,
I appreciate your bringing the point to my attention. I’ll
add Connecticut to my listing.

John,
Thanks for that input. Since my posting, I spoke with
SNGBarrattUSA who apparently have a source for the work. I
have to do some more research.

Thanks to all who responded.

Rick:
For some questions (how to remove a door panel, for example), location might
not be an issue. But this is an international list as Paul pointed out, and
Jaguar prepared their cars differently for different markets. If, for
example, we were to get a mechanical question about a car described as “a
1987 VDP”, I, as a Canadian, would assume this is a V12 car - because a 1987
VDP was ONLY a V12 car in Canada. But if the questioner is an American, he
would be referring to a 6 cylinder car. And for someone in South Africa, a
1987 VDP is likely unknown. This is an extreme (but common) example of the
problem with insufficient information; the market designation, model year,
and model are necessary details for a correct response to most questions -
otherwise we are guessing.
And if a questioner want to know a parts source or a service source for
his/her car - the issue of location is absolutely crucial - for obvious
reasons. I can provide a list of excellent suppliers. trim shops, mechanics,
etc. - and wheel refinishers! - here in the Victoria/Vancouver area. But
that won’t do a person in Texas - or Buenos Aires - much good.
