I have a 1998 XJ8 Vanden Plas, I just purchased the car. Some one
mixed the coolant with Green, I flushed the system, replaced the
thermostate and themostate housing, The car had over heated at one
time. But now with a new thermostate the thermostate is not
opening and coolant is comming back out the overfill hose. I brough
a 2nd thermostate both from the dealer and same problem. The
thermostate is still not opening. I know it is in correctly only
one way it will fit. Any help on what the problem might be?
Running bear (your name???): this is not the correct forum - we deal in
Series I, II and III XJ cars (and you have a Series V), but one very
important question: have you replaced the water pump? If not, you MUST.
The early V8 engines had a water pump that self destructs; the first
sign is overheating; rather than a thermostat problem, you may have a
pump problem.
