[xj] Pipe fitting to new Canadian made Fuel Tank

Hi,

I ordered a new fuel tank for my 73 Series One and where
my old one has just one outlet to connect to the fuel
system, this one has two. One has the right thread type but
is in the wrong position by an inch or so, the other in the
right place has a thread too large for the pipe, but too
small for the original adaptor that screwed into the
original tank.

I can’t be the first to come across this, any help out there?

Thanks!–

Did you order for S1/SII? Sounds like you got a Series 3
tank? What part number for the tank did you receive?

I just put S3 tanks in my S1 and had to replumb the whole
thing for the upcoming fuel injection conversion… but I
have a SBC V8.–

The tank carries the no. JA1F and that seems to be listed
on other sites for 72-77 carburated cars. I guess later carb
cars had a recirculating system, but mine does not, so I
wonder what to do. I’ve emailed Spectra, so I wait to hear
from them.

Regards,

Rob.–

Just properly cap off the un needed return line… it is
the most forward line on the tank. You will find it is a
very odd thread but caps exist.

Those lines are what I needed so I bought the S3 tanks, but
I had to use the same Series 3 caps as they are very
different.–

Carbs do no have a return system as such, Rob - however, the extra
connection may relate to the fuel cooler sometimes fitted on AC versions…

Roger’s advise is the best; cap off unused outlet(s) - provided there is an
outlet that serves what you have got, it should pose no problems…

Yes, not a particular problem to cap off the return union.
The Spectra guys have replied with the thread sizes in the
tank but no acknowledgement that it differs from the
original spec.

So now I have to find or fabricate an adaptor from the 9/16’’
of the tank to the 1/2’’ of the outlet pipe.

I find it irritating that they happily sell you this stuff
and don’t care to tell you its not a straight fit for the
early cars. They must have had this feedback before.–

Hey rob, I just bought the Spectra tank and it has the same fitting problems you describe.’ After hearing from Spectra, what did you find for the solution to the fittings?

Thanks, Dennis
