[xj] Power Steering Oil leaking

Hi there,

I think I have a serious problem with my XJ6, S2, 1975.
The Power Steering is leaking Oil out of the left Bellow
of the Rack Housing.
Can anyone tell me how to fix the problem and
also tell me how the power steering functions ??
Probably the gear is of the Adwest Type.

Many Thanks in advance !

Re: power steering leak out of left bellow;

From my experience the left bellow is not actually
causing the leak, rather it is something within the
area of the left bellow. The bellow is only used to
keep out dirt and keep the area clean. It is NOT used
to hold in power steering fluid. If it was, then upon
removal- all of your fluid would pour out…and of
course this is not what happens. Worst case scenario
is a re-built steering rack. If that is the situation,
then you should replace the two power steering hoses
as well. First and foremost make SURE that the leak is
from the rack itself and NOT the hose. THe hose may
have a leak which is traveling down to the rack, thus
giving an impression that you have a leak in the rack.=====
