[xj] Radio stays on when ignition turned off?

Hi
I am a regular reader with regular Jag woes !
I swear my XJ6 1986 is possessed.
Just lately after I had the heater core replaced I have noticed that the
radio will stay on after I have turned off the ignition fully. Is this a
grounding problem or what ?

Most likley a bad diode in the alt. allowing power to feed back when the
ign switch is off. You can do a quick check, by removing the small wire
from the alt. when the radio is playing and the ign. switch is off. If
radio quits then you have found your problem.

I suppose another possibility might be that the wiring became a wee bit
cobbled up on reassembly of the dashboard pieces so that the radio is now
wired to a constant voltage source. This would probably be most likely if it
has an aftermarket radio with a slew of sliced in connections instead of the
plug-in OEM connections.

Or, perhaps, a problem with the circuit (internal or external) which
supplies a constant voltage for the “memory” function of the radio ?

I like Chad’s idea.
