The surprisingly few archive postings on alternator removal describe
series 3 alternator removal from under the car after moving the sway bar.
The sway bar removal sounds like an extremely difficult task in itself.
You can remove the alternator without removing or loosening the bar - use a
compact scissor jack to provide that extra inch or two of clearance needed to
drop the alternator.
