[xj] RE:Hood Vents (Louvers) & ingestion of smelly air

Isn’t the grill in front of the windscreen the aircon intake? Poking
louvers might allow those wonderful Jag smells to flow out from under the
bonnet into the aircon intake. I’ve got a ford truck that lost the gasket
between the hood and the firewall, and you can really tell when it starts
sucking air that’s been through the engine compartment.

What if you placed some louvers along the front wing about 6 inches in front
of the door opening and a couple inches down from the top? Then you could
stick your hands out and feel all that heat coming out the louvers! Of
course, then the smells will come out the louvers and in your open windows,
but you wouldn’t be fighting water so much.

Perhaps another side benefit of the louvers, if they were set back far
enough,
would be the possibility of popping the hood (bonnet) open if it ever got
stuck.
Knock on wood(dash) that it has never happened to me.

Tim, yes I’ve considered that and so will be placing the louvers as far
outboard of the vent area as possible. However, our Jag doesn’t smell! And,
it doesn’t run right now either – I lost its spark. Where does it usually
hide? {:o]

The fender idea is good too, but I have to remove the hood anyway to have a
welder fix the righthand latch mounting, so that’ll be an easier path for me.
