Hello Fellow Jaggers
I’ve a problem, I’m in the midst of removing the
glass front and rear. It’s time to paint Kitty, So I need to know
where the wire for the rear defroster is in the rear windscreen, I
don’t want to cut it as I remove the glass. I have looked through
all my books and checked the past post and I find nothing to help
me locate it before cutting, Any help on the subject is much
appreciated.–

You don’t see a simple male-female spade connection at each side of the rear
screen ?

Thanks Doug
What was I thinking! I looked at those and for some reason I
thought they were some sort of holders for the window. I see now,
thanks for making me pay a little more attention. I’ll try and do
better next time! Thanks as usual.–

We got the rear windscreen in place today. I started putting the rubber
insert in place but did not finish.
I guess I should have thought of this before I started the insert, but I was
wondering what the consensus is regarding adding sealant. The factory
manual says to do it, although I doubt they had silicone at the time.
I have GE black silicone and could put it between the glass and rubber
and/or rubber and metal. I would appreciate any opinions.
I am at the same point for front and rear. Eagerly awaiting responses.

They used other sealants then, Lou - but the principle is the same; to
seal the interface between rubber/glass and rubber/metal. Due to
manufacturing tolerances and also body flexing they obviously didn’t
quite trust the sealing of the rubber alone…
One point in this; some hardening silicons are rather sensitive to the
cleanness of the interfaces and may delaminate - defeating the purpose
of sealing…

I’ve done both front and rear screens, so far no leaks. I’ve
even removed one subsequently for a vinyl roof replacement,
not to difficult but cleanup is a bit slow.
I dry fit, put down masking tape then add sealant to both
sides. Fit spreader as soon as possible and finally remove tape.

Yes, black silicone sealant was used but I can’t remember
the flavour (any known brand should do).
Well Lou, you should be getting good at getting that
spreader in properly next time. I used to have the correct
spreader tool but it’s long gone. I just use a small flat
screwdriver and a small pair of hook nose pliers… on one
really tight corner I used some Methylated spirit. Not for
drinking of course, that comes later as a good beer and the
satisfaction of a job well done.
Cheers, Luke–

Did you use black silicone sealant or something else?
