[xj] Removing Entire Center Console

Hi guys,

What screws am I missing? I have to remove the entire center
console thing – I already removed the ‘‘ski slope’’, and two
screws in the rear (towards the back seats.) Are there
obscured bolts/screws that I’m missing? I can’t seem to get
the thing to budge.

Thanks!

You’ve removed the footwell vents, and the trip computer/radio panels?
The ducting for the rear vent will also be holding you up. I can’t
remember if there are screws in the middle of the console near the
carpet, but I think so. Removing the seat cushion might give you a
better look.

In reply to a message from Craig Talbot sent Mon 30 Apr 2012:

what a huge pain in the ass – there are screws that attach
behind the radio, and attach to the trip computer dash area as
well. I had to snip all the zip ties that held the wire bundle
that powers the rear window switches as well, and disconnect
several connectors in order to lift it and move the center
console onto the passenger seat. Phew!

Now the real fun can begin… and I can finally patch the
transmission tunnel…–
