[xj-s] 16,17 or 6to4?

hello all, I am currently running 17x8 XJR wheels with
P245/45R-17 tires. they do handle great, but I get an extreme
amount of feedback from the road surface.not like that
smooooth ride I had from the factory 15’s. what is your
opinion of going to a 16 inch wheel?

part deux: seen any nice GM style wheels on a Jag lately? I
don’t mind a little machine work for the sake of a eye-
catching wheel.

Some 16s with a more reasonable aspect ratio such as “60 series” would
probably make a world of difference.

I’ve considered going to 16s on my XJR for that very reason. I probably
won’t, but I’ve thought about it ! Low profile tires are not all they’re
cracked up to be.

Robin…it would seem that the 17’’ rim/tire combo is about where
this issue rears its head. 18’’ wheels are worse. I have limited the
amount of tramlining by changing the front subframe mounts to
aluminum and by eliminating about 3/4’s of the flex in the rear
radius arms. The shorter side wall seems to transfer more
road ‘‘feel’’ to the steering wheel and accentuates any wear in the
rubber suspesnion pieces. I run the same xjr rims as yourself.–

Under no circumstances EVER buy 18’’ wheel for your XJS. I
have regretted it since the day I bought mine, there just
isnt enough sidewall ( with my tires at least) for a
comfortable ride. I am seriously considering replacing mine
with something in a 17’’ or 16’’ so if anyone wants to live
dangerously and try some 18’''s let me know, heck I might
just sell you the whole car.–
