[xj-s] 1984 xjs a/c diagnostics

1984 xjs air conditioning diagnostics. i found a disconnected wire to
the compressor and need other help please. i’ve read thru kirbys
great book. pauls jaguar shipped me the jdht cdrom today. in the
meanwhile, can someone please advise on the following:

  1. compressor check circuit with 3 prong resistor. my resistor is
wired as follows: left to two wire connector on front of compressor
(green). middle pin goes to push on connector at rear bottom of
compressor (looks black). is this the thermally operated switch which
melts to ground when there is a freon problem? right pin of resistor
goes to a wire that has a round connector on it. it is not connected
to anything, it is laying loose. where is this wire supposed to go???
kirbys book says you can disconnect the thermal wire at the rear base
of the compressor, but not this wire. maybe this is why i am
    frying???
  2. the resistor has ten ohms from the left pin to the center pin and
zero ohms from the center pin to the right pin (thus ten ohms from end
to end). are these values correct?
  3. vacuum check valve for the vacuum reservoir. where can i find
these two things? i have the panel under the steering wheel and
    drivers xmission kick pad removed.
  4. the temp knob can be measured according to the book from zero to
10k ohms across the temp range. how can you get at the thing to
measure the resistance? i have the left xmission kick panel off and
have access to lots of wires. are some of the exposed wires the ones
on the temp control? if so, which ones please.
  5. faulty feedback potentiometer in the servo is mentioned in the
    book. where is this item?
it’s in the 90’s here. help !!! larry stein, @larry_stein

  1. I think the resistor probably is the thermal fuse.
  2. Take care to protect the precious air con ECU if you go
sticking a voltmeter across anything while the system is
    powered-up.
  3. The feedback pots can be seen clearly in photo A on my
    website at: http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/photographs/
