[xj-s] 1987 XJSC information

Hi,

I’m new to this forum. I have an opportunity to purchase a 1987
XJSC (5.3L) for what I think is a very attractive price. It has
about 60,000 miles on it and appears to be in excellent condition.
Both the soft and hard tops are included. Does anyone have an idea
as to the normal price for this car? Is there anything in
particular that I should watch out for? The car seems to run very
well, there is no rust, bumpers are bright with no oxidation or
pitting. Any help or advice is appreciated.

Regards,

John Zanone–

John, ‘‘normal’’ is a relative term. With cars that old price
is what a buyer wants to pay.

Download ‘‘The Book’’, this tells you the weak spots and
places to look for expensive issues.

There isn’t much that can’t be fixed or bodged back together
if you have time and/or money.–

You can download a book here from the Jag-Lovers website (Just
search for XJS Book) and another great resource is to get you a
copy of ‘‘You and Your Jaguar XJS, Buying, enjoying, maintaining,
modifying’’ by Nigel Thorley. It’s actually published by Haynes the
same people who publishes repair manuals, but it’s NOT a repair
manual, it’s got a lot of repair and maintinance tips and tricks in
it but that’s not what it’s meant to be. You can get them off of
eBay pretty cheap, Amazon sells them, or about any bookstore should
be able to order one for you. It’s great to have pre-purchace but
if you can’t get one fast enough it’s still well-worth it to keep
as a reference. List production information, available colors and
options year by year, performance data, stuff to watch out for.
Al aruound a great resource and very upto date, I think it was just
updated in 2007. He also has written versions for the XK8 and XJ
and also numerous books on Jaguar in general and Jaguar history.–

If it is a clean car with no tears in the leather, the wood
is good, there is no rust or oil leaks underneath, you can
still see through the soft top window and it drives really
well, it could bring $7-9k depending on what part of the
country its in and how it is being advertised. If it is in
showroom condition, it may creep over $10k. It will
depreciate quickly if you drive it alot.

It appears that the asking price of this model is going up,
but I don’t know if the selling price is.
