[xj-s] 1992 XJS Power Seat Motor Removal

I am trying to figure out how to remove the drivers seat so I can replace
the drive motor. Since the motor is not working I am not able to move the
seat forward far enough to access the rear mounting bolts. I have searched
the forum and archives, as well as Experience in a Book, and cannot find
an answer. Does anyone know of a way to manually move the seat, or to gain
access to the mounting bolts without a working motor?
Thanks for your help.

Scott,

There are two rods the gears are on. One on each side
running fron to rear. At the front are two flat metal
holders to keep the rods in place. The metal holders
have small bolts holding them in place.

Remove the bolts, push the rods to the side, this
frees the gears and will allow the seat to slide.

Let me know if you find a motor. I’ll need one too!— Scott Bryant scottpbryant@comcast.net wrote:

Can you remove these rods without removing the seat?
I have to reset the sensor aand this may be an easy way of doing it.

You do not remove the rods. They slide to the side
and disengage the gears. Then the seat can slide by
hand, well maybe leg.

I have not tried to change the seat position. The car
is still in cold storage so I cannot check it but I
think they could be screws instead of bolts holding
the rod keepers. They are located at the front of the
seat just below the thigh support on the front of the
seat frame. Spaced about above the seat tracks.
