[xj-s] 1993 XJ-S 4.0 Factory 5-speed

I have a 1993 factory 5-speed with less than 40k miles. I
am the 2nd owner, bought the car 3 months old have original
invoice etc. I am told that less than 10 factory 5-speed
xj-s of any year were delivered to the US. I also found
this fact?? on the internet. Assuming this is true what
value would this Jag have? It is in perfect condition.
Thank you to anyone who has an opinion!

I have recently seen pristine V12 convertibles advertised for sale
in the 20s. Without appraising the car; I would advertise at
$18,000 to $20,000 and see if that is where the market is for your
car. To be sure the market price is that price someone is willing
to pay for your car and if you are willing to sell at their offer.–

Hi
I have a '94 factory 5 speed coupe, black with barley interior,
albeit with 100k miles. No rust, and a near mint interior with NOS
OEM front seat leather replaced.

Just how many of these made it to the USA seems undetermined, more
than 10 for sure. In the last 6 months there have been 4 or 5 come
up for sale on E-Bay, none appearing to sell over $10k.

I really don’t think the manual transmission affects price that
much. Its all down to the overall condition of the car.

With the low mileage and ownership on your car, I would estimate
$10-15k if you found the right buyer. The coupes although rarer
seem less desirable to most passing interest. This is only my
personal opinion.–

The 5 speeds on e-bay are conversions not factory installed.–

The 5 speeds on e-bay are conversions not factory
installed.

I am sure some of them are conversions. Enough talk over the years about doing them.

However, the factory also made cars with 5 speeds and the mid 90’s are the correct years.

Pat,

Congratulations!! You are the lucky owner of an exceptional automobile!

I had the priviledge of owning a '93, 5 spd convertible several years ago that unfortunately came to an abrupt halt after being forced off the road by a blind woman in a HUGE SUV!! I still miss that car.

I do have one question for you if I might. Do you have any problems with the coolant hose under the intake manifold? Every time I downshifted mine abruptly and hit the power, it blew that darned hose!

Thanks in advance for your reply.

Earl,

Sorry about your car. I downshift all the time and have
never had a problem. As a matter of fact I have not had any
problem with the car at all. I have done nothing other than
had the oil changed. As you know this car is loads of fun
to drive … have you ever seen/heard of another
FACTORY 5-speed in the US?

Agree that condition matters most but I also think a factory 5-
speed manual adds material value in an XJS. It’s hard to say how
much, however, since they are so rare that few have traded. I
purchased a '94 factory 5-speed conv 5 years ago with all original
paperwork. It had about 50K on it when I bought it and I do about
4K per year in it so it’s now at 70K miles. I found the car
advertised on ebay where it didn’t sell, with a reserve of $20K?
It was a local car so I contacted the seller to view it. After
much negotiation, I ended up paying about 15% more than what a
comparable AT car would have brought then. I think the 5-speed cars
have better upside appreciation potential than the ATs, but it’s
not fully apparent yet, I think because most don’t know how great
these cars are with a 5-speed! I wouldn’t want to be in a position
where I had to sell it fast because, as the question indicates,
it’s hard to establish value based on transactions, and a motivated
seller will be taken advantage of. I will probably never sell it
unless a very motivated buyer tracks me down.–

Hi all, Have not posted since 2012. time goes fast when you are having fun.
I still have the 1993 factory 5-speed XJS. Under 40,000 miles, all original. Perfect condition. Does anyone have any idea of it’s value? I have never seen another factory 5-speed XJS sell in the USA.
