[xj-s] 1994 V 12 6.0 oil capacity

This is about the third oil change I’ve done since I bought the
car. Lot’s of conflicting info on this. Jag world calls for just a
hair under 11 quarts. Others say 12 qts. Pretty sure I put in 10
1/2 quarts last change with a smaller mobile one filter.
Changed the oil today with the larger Jaguar filter, Filled the
filter before screwing it on. Then filled it up with two 5qt
containers of Mobile 1. Drove home from the garage…let it sit for
15 minutes and rechecked the level. It read about a 1/4 inch above
the full mark. Should I drain some out? What do you other 6 liter
owners put in your engines?
Thanks

expansion nicely.Leave as is…

Both of my '94 xjs coupe 6.0L’s have always had 12 quarts, and that
puts it EXACTLY on the upper line of the dipstick.
No don’t drain it. As long as you haven’t filled it to the point
that the level has reached the crankshaft, you are fine.

I’m wondering if we didn’t let it drain long enough. Possibly some
oil was still in the oil cooler in front of the radiator. Usually
at a garage, they need to keep moving along to make money and not
spend extra time with a car sitting up on their lift dripping
oil…but perhaps that is what is needed on these V12’s. I remember
before I moved to Fl , my mechanic up state NY was never in a rush
and let it sit up on the lift for quite a while dripping the last
bits of oil out.–
