[xj-s] 94-95 V12 British Racing Green Owners..question

Hello guys,

I have a question for anyone who owns a British Racing
Green v12 vehicle;

My 4 liter 95 has been re painted in the original BRG
color, and I have seen other 95 four liter that are the
exact color as mine, but this is the second time I have
crossed a 94-95 V12 in British Racing green and the green
is a deeper, more beautiful color. I am not confusing it
with brooklands green, because I have spoken to both v12
owners and confirmed that their cars where BRG. I don’t
particularly care for the monochromatic look of all the
trim in the same color, but I do like the richer green
color.

I know that V12’s in 94-95 got a all leather interior vs.
the 4 liter cars part ambla interior, but did they get
better paint too??

If anyone know please comment–

I’d normally refer you to the link on this website to the
Jaguar brochures for your model year, but all printings show
that British Racing Green was available from 92-96, however my
car’s paint code is HFG, Brooklands Green. I even had my hood
resprayed and it sure matched the HFG color more than the
‘‘British Racing Green’’.

I have a 96 6 cylinder, but I’m not aware of any colors made
available only for the v12s.–

Any green can be British Racing Green. The Jaguar race cars often
had a bright green and white paint scheme. The only guideline is
tradition wherein British race cars are supposed to be green, Italian
cars red, American cars blue, German cars white or silver, etc.
There are no specifics on the hue.

Mine is a HFG but it’s different names for different
years, from BRG, RG to Brooklands Green. Maybe what you
saw was a resprayed car? Or a polished one which would be
‘‘deeper’’. But then I think there is another Brooklands
Green with a different paint code.–

Kirbert,

Jaguar had named their greens for XJS’ ‘‘British Racing
Green’’ in '75-'76, when they dropped it in favor of Juniper
Green for one year in 1977. (They did add a metallic paint
called ‘‘Racing Green’’)

From '78-'83, you could only get a metallic ‘‘Racing Green’’
color.

Then in '84 they brought back the non-metallic green color,
but kept the name ‘‘Racing Green’’. They introduced a new
metallic green as ‘‘Sage Green’’. That stayed until '86, when
they dropped the metallic ‘‘Sage Green’’. In '87, they
ditched ‘‘Sage Green’’ and the only metallic green option
became ‘‘Moorland Green’’.

In '88 they once again dumped their non-metallic green
option. ‘‘Racing Green’’ was no longer available.

The non-metallic ‘‘Racing Green’’ returned in 1990. They also
replaced their metallic ‘‘Moorland Green’’ with ‘‘Mica Jade
Green’’.

In 1991 ‘‘Brooklands Green’’ was introduced as Jaguar’s non-
metallic green option.

1992 saw the return of Jaguar’s non-metallic ‘‘British Racing
Green’’(HFB). It apparently remained their only non-metallic
green option through 1996. ‘‘Mica Jade Green’’ (HEV)
continued to be their only metallic green option.

I know that every British (and I suppose a few non-Brit) car
manufacturers have their own version of ‘‘British Racing
Green’’, but I was assuming that the OP was concerned about
the standard colors available at the time. I’m certain that
if you compared Jaguar’s 1975 version of British Racing
Green, it would look different than their 1996 offering…

Now how my 1996 ended up with a color only offered in 1991
is peculiar…–

Hi Mark. My car is an HGL code which is known as Spruce
Green. It is a type of BRG but metallic. I love it and it
gets lots of favourable comments. I think it is a rare
colour only found on late cars, possibly only 96 year model.
If you want to have a look at my car it is listed on XJS
Data at www.xjsdata.com go to the ‘Find Car #’ on the
left and enter 222618. Then press GO. Hope you like it.
Cheers Richard.–

Thanks for the reply. Richard, your car does indeed look
fantastic, I imagine that color was only an option in
England in 1996…

But I still wonder if the v12 cars got a special type of
paint process while using the same colour?..maybe more
layers of paint? Who knows…but if anyone looks at a 94-
95 4 liter and a 94-95 6 liter, both in BRG I can
guarantee that you’ll see the difference.–

Hi. Thanks for the positive comments. HGL Spruce Green was
offered on the 95/96 XJS Celebrations. The colour is shown
in the brochure produced for that model year and can be seen
on this site. My car has never been any other colour and it
was built in 95. I have only ever seen one other and that
was also a Celebration however I have seen the colour on an
XK8 which must have been after 96. I have to say the colour
looked better on the XJS especially with the cream and
coffee interior.–

As my car is being done up right now I spoke to my sprayer
about HFG and he showed me 3 swatches (is that what
they’re called those cards with paint on it) of HFG for
1990’s and all 3 were ever so slightly different. One of
them perfectly matches my car, he called it the ‘‘plainest
of them all’’. Had something to do with blues and reds in
the mix or somesuch.–
