[xj-s] A proud new owner of a 1986 XJ-S

Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Matthew and I am the proud new
owner of a 1986 Jaguar XJ-S with only 68,000 miles on the clock. My new baby
is British Racing Green with tan leather interior. This car was a one owner
car with all of the Maint records up until right about the 60,000 mile mark.
I currently live in Colorado Springs and am in the military. I would like
to thank everyone on this list and especially Kirby. You all have
unbeknownst to yourselves helped me tons in finding the perfect car and
avoiding a couple of potential nightmare cars. I have been lurking on the
list for about 3 weeks now just checking it out and reading everyone’s
input. I also spent a couple of night going over the archives and of course
I have just about entirely read Kirbys book. Well that is it for now with
the exception of the one question I have, does anyone know of a particularly
good Jaguar mechanic in Colorado Springs? I had the car pre-purchased
checked by a European Import expert but he readily admitted not being a
Jaguar expert. The nearest dealer is well over a 2 hour drive away. So if
anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it thanks,
Matt

Hi Matthew,

Concidence. I am also the recent new owner of an XJS 1994 vintage, British
racing green and Tan Leather Interior also with 68K miles on it!. I live
just SE of Denver, around Parker. As for Mechanics in the springs. I have
heard that there is a good one at:

Colorado Springs: Mondino Imports
305 Juanita
Colorado Springs, CO
Tel: (719) 385-0953
or
Concours Cars of Colorado
2414 W. Cucharas
Colorado Springs, CO
Tel: (719) 473-6288

I do not know how up-to date this info is but you may want to give it a try.
If you need to get the car serviced in Denver, Avoid Stevenson Imports at
all costs. I have had my car in there for service and they have done
horrendous things to screw it up. They gave it a tune up and forgot to put
oil in the engine and left out the transmission dipstick to name a few
things, plus they are horrendously expensive.

Two places I would reccomend would be Dave’s Euorpean

I have known Dave Rager there for a few years and he is a very straight guy,
no bullshit, and he will spend the time with you. Very competent and
extremely well known for Mercedes,BMW, JAG Etc. The only problem is that he
is so good that he is ALWAYS busy. You can tell him that Patrick Herda sent
you, he will take xtra special care of you.

There is also Ted at Jaguar denver. They do nothing but Jags. You can find
them at :
www.jaguardenver.com

There is also a parts place in town, I haven’t worked with him personally
but he was reccomended for parts.

Some people have all the luck. Having him 2 hours away makes it easy to
stay out of his shop.

Hey Patrick, I recently acquired my Dad’s '82 XJ6. I live in Franktown. Wondering if you have found a good mechanic in our area since the original post in 2000? Thanks, Ken

I would recommend Ted Ax, up on Washington, about 67th or do. His shop’s name is Ax and Allies.

A better, straight shooter you will NEVER meet.

Welcome aboard!!
