[xj-s] ABS accumulator ball

Ive recently had the sphere re-charged by Pleiades UK (01487 831239) for about 1/3 cost of
a new one. Note that they are more used to re-working the XJ40 sphere which has a larger
diameter thread, so be aware. The spheres lose around 10 % pressure every year. As long as
they aren’t completely de-pressurised they can usually be re-charged. Look into the
sphere, the diaphragm should be seen easily if there is pressure. If the diaphragm is all
the way in, chances are the sphere is scrap.

The GM part is identical to the Jag- virtually every marking on the 2 parts including a
pressure rating- 210 Bar. I also checked the threads- they are the same

Alan,
What was the cost of a recharge? New ones in the US go for anywhere from $73 (Keltner’s) to
$310 (XKs Unlimited). The dealer would want even more, I expect.

Pleiades currently charge 40 ukp + postage for the xj40 sphere, no core
charge, straight cost. They dont keep the xj-s sphere in stock yet but will
re-work it. They charged me the same amount, I was quite happy with that
considering their excellent speed of service and help.

Would anyone know if there is a difference between the accumulator balls in
late XJ40’s and late XJS’ with the 4.0L engine? Would one of the
substantially cheaper GM balls work in a late (1994) 4.0L XJS?
Thanks.
