[xj-s] ABS issues, update

I know I made the statement at one time that all the XJS
95.25 & later (with the Teves IV ABS) pedal boxes were
plastic, someone corrected me on that, and it is true that
some were aluminum - see the pics in the following adds:

It is also true that some of the '95 XJS 6.0 V12’s had the
Teves IV ABS system.–

Interesting. I can think of two explanations:

  1. They were using up old stock of aluminum pedal boxes.

  2. A problem arose with the plastic pedal boxes and they reverted to
    an aluminum design.

Rather, I think they found the plastic boxes durable enough
and cheaper to make. The Aluminum ones I saw were on
the '95’s. My wife’s late production 226xxx '96 has the
Plastic Pedal box. Has anyone heard of any of the plastic
pedal boxes failing?–

I’d be curious to know if they make any difference to pedal feel!

I think I have mentioned this before - that the Teves IV
has a much better consistant, and linear feel to it than
the Teves III with the Teves III boost pressure varying
between Pump shutoff and pump turn on points (180 - 140
bar; 2611 - 2031 psi), a variation of 580 psi of boost
pressure. I don’t think that difference is because of the
pedal arm length, but rather the boost characteristics of
each system.–
