[xj-s] black hose

I moved the leather bonnet case in my trunk and found a black 2 FT
long rubber hose about 1/4’’ diameter. At one end there is a
removable elbow with a smaller diameter thinner walled tip. I
imagine the thinner wall on the tip makes it easier to slip over
whatever it is supposed to slip over. Does anyone know what this is
and where it goes? I can’t find any place where it would go but I
would imagine it was there for a reason…–

I had a small hose laying loose in the boot. It was the battery
vent hose that was left disconnected when the battery was replaced
during the PO’s reign.

Could be this is what you have.–

Jim,
The original Jaguar OEM battery in my '92 had a single point vent.
All other batteries I have purchased don’t have this vent
vonnection.

I simply ventilated my battery like on my airplane batt box. Stick
a tube facing forward on one side and a tube facing rearward on the
opposite side. My Optima battery supposedly doesn’t need
ventilation. I dont believe that but it does have only a 3/4 inch
vent for the whole batt,

Jag’s system as well as others don’t ventilate when charging a
battery at stand still. I suspect the trunk contents could get batt
fumes (HCL)

A 12 v computer fan would work.

The correct battery has a nipple at the top of one of the
long sides of the battery where the hose connects.–
