[xj-s] Breaking a 1986 XJ6

Hi folks,
I’ve been helping my friend Rod (of Staplehurst, Kent) to
remove the 4.2 engine from his XJ6, see pics. This car is in
superb condition apart from some nasty rust rot at the front
windscreen which Rod is not prepared to repair. He also
breaks Jags for a living so it’s almost inevitable this is
the fate of this Jag.

I lied on the concrete floor under the car with Rod to undo
the various fastenings for the gearbox to allow it to be
released. There’re two which baffle us as to why on earth
the Jaguar engineers put them in such an inaccessible place
(they’re under the plate that covers the drive shaft, near
to thegearbox sprung mounting, and are behind the plate!)

Rod insists that this engine will help keep another Jag
going. It’s in fact going to go into an E-Type, in Spain,
and its owner will mount triple carbs on it.

Nice pics. May help someone with their own removal.

Kent is a little too far for me. Is he going to list parts
somewhere?–

Hi,
Yes Rod lists his stuff on eBay and caters for international
buyers. I’ll look up his eBay userid. You can look for loads of UK
eBay Jaguar parts as most Brits sell them off cheap (given the
supply here). Just check out whether they’re prepared to ship
international.
