[xj-s] Cat too cool-Browser fried

Hi all.

Long story - short story. The Florida lightning fried my machine so I
can’t access the archives and I would appreciate it if someone would
let me know what the probable causes are for the temp being too COOL.
She seems to be running fine but at a much lower temp since the weather
turned cooler.

Thanks for your help.

Typically, dud thermostats. I have found in my own experience that even a
thermostat that almost closes (barely visible gap) drops the operating
temperature too far.

This is an interesting one.

What temp should be indicated? Given all the people with o/heating problems,
I was quite pleased that my cat runs at about the midway between C and N.
Should it be higher?

Mine also runs with the temperature needle at about 1/3 scale. It sits
there regardless of the ambient temperature.

I have 77 degree (from memory) thermostats fitted, next time I will put in
hotter ones.

I would not put any money on the guage calibration being correct.

after I cleaned out the mat of dried leaves between oil cooler and
radiator, flushed the cooling system, and replaced the thermostats with the
correct ones for the car (an '83…also, one was stuck shut), mine too runs
halfway between the “C” and “N”.
