Hey Don,

If I didn’t know better, I would have thought Gary would have been
the ‘autor’ of that statement. Kudos to you.

Phew! I’m glad you’re not the only one who is not sure quite what
the Celebration model looks like!

This is what happened to me:

I was looking for a new shape Jaguar XJS 6cyl vintage 1995 and my
advert was answered by a guy who happened to have one for sale.

Nice car/nice price it sounded great over the phone.

I also asked the stock questions: How long have you had it? why do
you want to sell it? how many owners? (It was ONE owner!)

What are the wheels and tyres like?

I was not however expecting the answer I got!

‘‘The tyres are 90% good’’ and the steering wheels ‘Wood & leather’!!!

At this point my heart started beating a little bit faster!

Did you say the steering wheel is ‘Wood and Leather?’ ‘‘Yes that’s
right’’.

By this time I was already writing out my cheque for a car that I
had never seen (mentally anyway)

‘ah hem’ I said as I cleared my throat, ''has it got a gold badge on
the bonnett? ‘‘Yes but is that important?’’

By now I was breaking out in a sweat and unable to reply, except to
add the rider ‘‘Has it got dished wheels or chrome 5 spoke’’ either
one was fitted to the Celebration Model.

Over the phone I said I would give him his money for the car and
didn’t even bother making an offer!

The luxury seats with their built in headrests (with jag motifs)
were also there and exactly how I expected.

The car was extremely low mileage and mint so I gave the guy a
bankers draft and drove off into the sunset, as I had literally
bought this car for approximately half what it was worth.

So remember: Gold Badge-Wood & Leather Wheel-Luxury interior-Dished
alloy or Chrome 5 spoke wheels.

Better yet, if it’s not on fire, celebrate!

I have a bad habit of walking out of a store or restaurant and the usual
crowd has gathered around to admire the Jag, I break the ice by saying
“It’s not on fire, is it?”
