[xj-s] Check engine light code ff24

After charging my battery I now get an check engine message error
FF24. After some checking I know it is related to some type of
ignition problem…can anyone shed any light on this?–

I assume that you have the 6 cyl engine ? (the V12 was a rare beast
only in the XJR-S in’93 I think)

I have the same car, and the 5 vol Factory shop manual.
As you said, its Ignition-related.
P18.1-8 lists ff24 as ‘Ignition drive’
Function: ‘Looks for ECU output to ignition amplifier module’
There - isn’t that clear now !!

In pracice, I’ve had several of these over the years, usually
related to low battery voltage when I start the car after it sat.
And I believe you mentioned ‘charging the battery ??’

I always just disconnect the battery (to reset the error code),
charge it up well and reconnect (reprogramming the remotes, setting
the clock of course).
If you need details on reprog the remotes, let me know
Good luck !–

Mike,
FF24 refers to the ECU’s monitoring of ignition amplifier
function. You may want to check wire integrity and connection to
your ignition amplifier (on the '93, 4 liter, left hand drive, the
amplifier is usually mounted in the engine bay to the upper right
of the radiator, right next to the head light adjustment screws and
in front of the coil).
Have you tried clearing the code yet? Sometimes that code can
appear after charging your battery. If you simply clear the code,
it may not return. Any symptoms? Car start okay?
Best wishes,
~Rory–

No significant problems since she is a recent acquisition. Bought her 5 new shoes and new battery. After installation of the new battery, the check engine code FF44 suddenly appeared. Otherwise she runs smoothly and purrs like a kitten.
