[xj-s] Fan Belts for V-12

I went to the parts store to get a set of fan belts and they gave
me GATES belts that have a saw tooth pattern on the inside diameter
of the V. Are these belts ok to use? I am trying to quiet down the
ones that have been on there for some time. Should I insist on the
old solid V? Opinions?

Thanks,

err, they gave you more than one multigroove? On a '90 (which I think
you’ve got?) only the alternator belt is multigroove; the others are
“old style” and the two aren’t interchangeable.

In reply to a message from Arnoud sent Fri 4 May 2007:

Clarification: The belts they gave me have the saw tooth pattern
perpendicular to the outside diameter of the belt casing. Les sent
me a note saying they will run cooler and last longer. The
alternator belt is diffrent being a flat MULTI groove belt.
