[xj-s] Front Suspension - 1991 XJS Facelift, tech. advice

I wonder if anyone can help. I have a rotten front sub
frame and have just finished restoring a spare one complete
with all the suspension bits.

Trouble is I’m stuck reassembling the lower wishbone
assembly.

I need to know where the washers go, is it one on either
side of the bushes on both ends of the fulcrum pin and four
in total?
All the manuals I have show just two on the threaded end
before the hexagonal nut goes on and unfortunately none of
the photos I took on disassembly are close up enough to
show this in detail.
Any advice or diagrams would be welcome. Thanks.–

Hi Matt,

My XJS parts manual (albeit one printed in 1987) shows 'em only on
the “outside” of each bush.–

Thanks Arnoud but I think the book might be slightly
economical with the truth for the sake of illustrative
clarity.

I’m still confused, I’m sure I remember one on each side of
the bushes when I took them off trouble is it just doesn’t
seem right whichever way I try them.

Please someone help! I REALLY REALLY need to know this. I
even jacked up my car and looked at the faulty sub frame
you just couldn’t see enough. HELP!!–

There are washers on both sides of each bush.–

Thanks Pro, I’ll give that a try today (Saturday).

As I remember that makes for a very tight fit, so much so
that the wishbone hardly moves when in place which confused
me originally.–
