[xj-s] Fuel delivery problem -'86 SIII XJ6

Hi,
I thought the fuel pump was in the trunk- The mechanic at
the Jag service station is saying its mounted inside the
tank and would be a 4 hour job to replace it. Can that be
right?–

dsrisdall,

If your subject line is correct then you are on the wrong list.

This is the XJ-S list (the two door coupes and convertibles), and you want
the XJ list.

I own three Series III XJs and you are correct that the fuel pump is

not located in the fuel tanks. Check it out yourself. Remove the cover
over the spare tire and you will find the fuel pump on the right side of the
car looking forward just aft of the spare tire.

Since the mechanic you spoke to clearly doesn't know these cars you

should probably take it to someone who does.

When you post your email to the XJ list, please give more

information about your fuel delivery problem. It could be the fuel pump,
but there are other sources of fuel delivery problems including clogged fuel
filter, relays, wiring, etc.
