[xj-s] fuel fiter

Hello listers,
Does anyone know the easiest way to de-pressurize the fuel system in order
to change the fuel filter on a 95 xj-s.Thanks.

Hello Larry!

I did this on my '91 V12 Coupe recently, so…, if your '95 is
similar, check behind the carpeted panel just to the right of the battery,
if there are two relays there, start the car and then go around back to the
relays and disconnect the one closest to the fuel tank, the fuel pump should
stop running and the engine will falter and stop shortly thereafter.

Dis-connect the battery (for Safety), and make sure you have plenty of rags
to catch any fuel that will spurt from the connections when you open them.
Probably not a bad idea to remove the bottom carpet as well.

If you’re talking about a 4.0L, with the fuel filter in the wheel well, then
I just loosened the fittings on the
filter. No fuel splashed out. No undue pressure. Note - This may not be true
if the car was recently running, or for the 12 cyl. Also, keep a basin
underneath, and a rag handy, for the small amount of fuel that dribbles out
of the lines.

the system. However not fuel squirted out, just a few drip’s. The
haynes manual makes it seem like it’s going to gush out at a high
rate. I can’t remember exactly but, it also tells you to

The other filter you also need to check and/or replace is the one in the
sump tank, after 10+ years, it has probably collected quite a bit of rust
particles.
